Accident near Allenwood Road
A two-vehicle accident shuttered Route 138 for three hours Sunday after a passenger was ejected from a vehicle in the crash. Wall Police Sgt. Chad Clark said the accident at 4:38 p.m. Sunday at Route 138 and Allenwood Road involved two vehicles: a Chevy Blazer and Toyota FJ Cruiser traveling in the east bound lane of Route 138. John Lecorchick, 40 of Howell was driving the Blazer when he collided with Daniel C. Alpaugh, 58 of Spring Lake Heights. The Toyota FJ Cruiser was also occupied by Patricia Romano, 56 of Spring Lake Heights. The collision caused Lecorchick's Blazer to overturn, ejecting Lecorchick, said Clark. Two taken to local hospital, traffic tied for an hour
An Ohio woman who blew through a red light at Route 138 and Allenwood Road Tuesday caused a two-car collision that sent two to a local hospital and tied up traffic for about an hour, police said. Sharon Williams, 54, of Ohio, went through the red light around 11:49 a.m., hitting a vehicle driven by Francis Sullivan, 70, of Howell as he traveled on Allenwood Road. The force of the impact pushed Williams’ vehicle into the grass median of the intersection, nearly into oncoming traffic, Sgt. Heath Bono said. Williams and her passenger, Rita Farbo, 65, of Wisconsin, were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Their conditions were unknown. Sullivan was treated and released, Bono said. Tractor-trailer overturned Thursday morning spilling debris over state highway
A tractor-trailer overturned on Route 138 Thursday morning, spilling heaps of debris on the state highway and shutting the westbound lanes of the state highway. The truck, filled with construction debri, was traveling westbound in the area of Route 18 when it overturned around 10:30 a.m. spilling debris across all lanes of the westbound highway. The driver, Michael Brake, 38, of Long Branch, was traveling on Route 18 south ramp for Route 138 west when he struck the curb and rolled over, Sgt Patrick Connor said. Brake was taken by Wall EMS to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township, with a minor leg injury, Connor said. Bear reported to be on the property of a Route 138 motel
A bear sighting, the second such incident since October, was reported this weekend, police said Tuesday. A witness reported seeing the bear around 9:50 p.m. Saturday on the property of the 38 Motel, on Route 138 just west of New Bedford Road, Sgt. Pete Lokerson said. The same person also reported seeing the same bear with two cubs the night before, Lokerson said. Police searched the area, but found no bear, Lokerson said. The witness did not say the bear was aggressive, Lokerson said. Lokerson should use common sense when encountering a bear. “Remain calm and never approach the animal. Convenience store chain want to build on former State Police barracks on Route 138
An application to build a Quick Chek convenience store and gas station on the site of a former State Police barracks is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday before the Board of Adjustment. The application has not had a hearing since February, according to the zoning board’s agenda. The convenience store chain wants to construct a 5,496-square-foot store and 16-pump gas station at 2101 Allenwood Road, near Route 138 east. It is the site of the former State Police barracks. The plan has been vigorously opposed by neighboring residents. Residents have complained that the proposal would needlessly add to traffic snarls and accidents on Allenwood Road. Charges stem from Feb. 13 multi-car pile up on Route 138
A Bay Head woman was indicted by a Grand Jury on six counts of assault by auto on Wednesday. Alexandra D. Kelly, 21, was indicted on charges she drove a car recklessly and caused injury to six people, according to the indictment. The charges stem from a Feb. 13 collision on Route 138 near the Good Sports facility. Police at the time said Kelly was driving a Dodge pickup truck eastbound around 6:40 p.m. when she struck the rear of a vehicle, pushing it into two other cars. Four people, whose names were not released, were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with minor injuries, Sgt. Pete Lokerson said. Kelly was also charged at the scene with driving while intoxicated, police have said.

Traffic on Eastbound Route 138 at 5:10 p.m. was backed up for miles onto I-195 because of an earlier accident on the state highway involving a tractor-trailor and at least one other car seen being loaded onto a flatbed tow truck.

Lawrence man charged with drunken driving, assault by auto
A Lawrence man was charged with three counts of assault by auto and drunken driving following a Saturday morning crash on Route 138 that sent three people to the hospital, police said. Paul M. Hough, 33, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and three counts of assault by auto following a 7:23 a.m. collision with a 2009 Toyota at the intersection of the state highway and Old Mill Road, Sgt. Chad Clark said. Hough was traveling east on the state highway in a 2005 Ford Ranger when he hit the Toyota, which was being driven by a 45-year-old Newark man, Clark said. Police did not release the driver’s name. The Toyota also had two passengers. Their names also were not released by police. All three had to be extricated …

Collision at intersection of Allenwood and Route 138 shortly before noon
An accident which appears to have involved three cars at the intersection of Allenwood Road and Route 138 shut the northbound portion of the local road before noon today. Southbound Allenwood Road at the intersection with the state highway was blocked off as three cars were being loaded onto flatbed tow trucks shortly before noon Wednesday. Police were directing traffic away from the site of the crash as the cars were loaded. Route 138 traffic was unimpeded. It was not immediately known if anyone suffered injuries in the collision. No further information was immediately available at 12:15 p.m.
