New Solar Company Officially Opens In Wall

Roof Diagnostics Solar opens new office on Route 34

The grand opening of Roof Diagnostics Solar, a solar integration company, was kicked off with a short ceremony on Thursday. Mayor Todd Luttman and Committeeman Jeff Foster cut a ceremonial ribbon, welcoming the business to its new East Coast headquarters at 2333 Route 34. The 8,600-square-foot facility, a 1981 building that underwent a $200,000 dollar renovation, will house the core of the company’s more than 300 employees, company officials said.  “I am pleased that Roof Diagnostics Solar has chosen to make Wall Township their home,’’ Luttman said. “Roof Diagnostics Solar is a growing company and will continue to grow with what Wall Township has to offer.” Kelcy Pegler Sr., owner, said the new office would allow the company to centralize …

K. Hov: 200-Home Development Would Improve Traffic Flow On Route 34

K. Hovnanian proposal would include traffic light on northbound Route 34

If K. Hovnanian of Red Bank was allowed to add 200 homes on a tract at Allaire Road and Route 34, traffic flow at one of the township’s busiest intersections would be significantly improved, representatives of the developer said Wednesday. John Rea, a Wall Township-based traffic engineer, told the Board of Adjustment at its regular meeting that the application to build 199 townhouses on a Route 34 tract would add far fewer cars to the congested intersection than if the parcel was built with the number of office buildings it is currently zoned to accommodate. Not only that, but the developer has already had talks with the state Department of Transportation and garnered tacit agency agreement for a plan to pay for and install a traffic …

Pitch Continues For 200-home Development

K. Hovnanian wants to build 199 homes on Route 34 tract; town opposes

A pitch to build nearly 200 townhouses on a Route 34 tract is scheduled to continue Wednesday before the Board of Adjustment.  K. Hovnanian, of Red Bank, wants to build 199 townhouses on a roughly 37-acre tract on the state highway and Allaire Road. The company began its pitch last month  before the board, but ran out of its 50-minute time limit. The property is zoned for office buildings and commercial development, with a small piece zoned for residential development. The developer is asking the board to combine the three zones into one residential zone, allowing for the development. The Township of Wall objects, arguing that the development runs afoul of the town’s master plan, which does not allow for housing in the Route 34 corridor. …

UPDATE: Tractor-Trailer Overturns on Route 34

Truck in median between north- and south-bound lanes of state highway

A MAC truck skidded and slid into the center median of Route 34 afternoon Monday when the driver tried to stop for the traffic light at Allenwood Road, police said. No one was injured. Shortly before 2 p.m. the operator of the truck, John Tarter, 46, of Red Bank, tried to stop for a red light at the busy intersection while traveling southbound on Route 34. The truck, registered to Future Sanitation of Farmingdale, slid on the rain-soaked road and overturned in the median, Sgt. Kenneth Brown Jr. said. The truck spilled a small amount of fluid on the road. The Wall Township Office of Emergency Management as well as the state Department of Transportation responded to aid cleanup, Brown said. Traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction …

K. Hov Townhome Pitch Ditched

Application to build 200 homes on Route 34 nixed for Wednesday's meeting

An application to build nearly 200 homes on Route 34 at Allaire Road has been scuttled at the last minute, according to the planning office. A division of K. Hovnanian Builders was scheduled to begin its pitch to the Board of Adjustment at Wednesday night's meeting, but the application was scrubbed from the agenda, the planning office said early afternoon Wednesday. The application has been re-scheduled for Feb. 20. No reason was given for the delay. Red Bank-based K. Hovnanian wants to build 199 townhouses on a 37-acre vacant plot at the state highway and Allaire Road. Twenty percent, or about 40 homes, would be reserved as affordable housing units, according to the proposal. The property is not zoned for residential development, so K. …

This plan is something that defies sound logic. K Hov is saying that they wish to build 200 homes which means a minimum of 400 vehicles wh owill be seeking egress and ingress on two roads that are major commuter highways at high speed and they think this is not a public safety issue. Doubtless the presentation will be full of data saying that this is to be no problem. But data does not translate …   more ›

4 p.m. UPDATE: Allenwood Circle Reopened At Route 34

Accident reportedly took down a utility pole, closing all southbound lanes at the Allenwood Circle

An early morning accident that took down a utility pole on southbound Route 34 in the area of the Allenwood Circle backed up traffic on the state highway Thursday morning but was cleared for evening rush hour. At 4 p.m., the DOT reported that the pole has been removed. All lanes are open. At 9 a.m. traffic in both southbound lanes was stop and go, mainly stop, up to Hurleys Pond Road. At 11:30 a.m., the state Department of Transportation reported that traffic is still being diverted around the circle. Backups are expected. At 2:00 p.m. the DOT reported that the right lane is open, with traffic funneling from two lanes. Expect traffic to be slow. An accident that occurred before 3 a.m. downed a utility pole across the circle. All southbound…

Police directing traffic at Hurleys Pond and Airport roads

UPDATE 12:47 p.m.: Power has been restored to most of those affected in an outage along Route 34 this morning, officials said. Jersey Central Power & Light is reporting that fewer than five customers are without power in Wall, following an outage that knocked out power to scads of buisinesses on Route 34 from Hurleys Pond Road to Belmar Boulevard. Several Wall Patch readers have reported the power is back on. The traffic lights at Airport Road and Hurleys Pond Road are functional and police have vacated the intersections with the state highway. ---------------------- Several hundred Wall residents and business owners are without power this morning as JCP&L deals with scattered outages throughout its coverage area. Traffic Woes Spur Committeeman To Prod State

Failing intersections on Route 34 getting the attention of Township Committee

Committeeman Clinton Hoffman is a man on a mission. Hoffman has got his sights set on jug handles — clogged, inefficient and potentially dangerous jug handles. Specifically, the log-jammed and often failing jug handles off southbound Route 34. Hoffman, at Wednesday’s Township Committee workshop meeting, attacked the jug handle at the intersection of the state highway and Belmar Boulevard for failing to accommodate the amount of traffic that flows through it, calling it “nearly impossible.’’ The problem, Hoffman said, is that the jug handle coming off Route 34 is too short, too close to the intersection and forces drivers to cross a lane of oncoming traffic to travel East on Belmar Boulevard. Frequently, Hoffman said, drivers will queue …

Overturned Car Snaps Utility Pole On Route 34

Single-car accident ties up traffic for hours on busy state highway

A single-car accident snapped a utility pole and snarled traffic for hours on Route 34 Saturday afternoon, police said. Michael Terantino, 23, of Iselin, around 12:25 p.m. lost control of his 2008 Ford in the northbound lanes of the state highway just north of the Allenwood Circle and crashed into a utility pole, Sgt. Steven Wolter said. Terantino’s car overturned and the utility pole fell across the northbound lanes of Route 34, Wolter said. Terantino was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Wall Township EMS with minor injuries, Wolter said. Traffic for hours was diverted away from the scene, causing delays, as Jersey Central Power & Light crews worked to replace the pole. State Department of Transportation crews assisted …
