The site went live on Friday. “As with everything we’re doing here, we wanted the website to reflect an open, transparent flow of information,’’ Simon said. “With some of the new improvements, we hope that this new site will reflect that.’’ In addition to Twitter feeds from Simon and Technology director Jeff Janover, the new site features blogs from each of the principals and many in the administration. Board of Education and Township Committee set to meet on the same day
Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Township Committee this week has moved its regular business meeting to Tuesday. The committee normally meets on Wednesday, but the shortened week prompted the governing body to bump up their regular session by one day. The committee’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at town hall, 2700 Allaire Rd. Also that night, the Board of Education is set to meet for its regular public session. The board is set to meet at 8 p.m. at the Intermediate School, 2801 Allaire Rd. The board’s meeting was postponed from last week, when the schools administration held a forum to collect community input on how the remainder of the school calendar would look following the two-week storm-forced closure of the …

Superintendent, in consultation with emergency officials, calls off school ahead of storm
The Wall Township School system is closed for Monday and Tuesday, according to Superintendent Daniel Simon. Simon, who earlier Sunday spoke with Police Chief Robert Brice and other emergency officials in a conference call, decided to shut the seven-school system ahead of Hurricane Sandy. In a message sent to parents around 11 a.m. Sunday, Simon said both the schools and the administrative offices would be closed for the coming storm and that on Tuesday a decision would be made whether to open on Wednesday. Due to severity of the impending weather conditions, all Wall Township schools and offices will be closed on Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th. All scheduled after-school and evening activities are postponed," Simon said. "…

Robin Zawodniak will fill empty seat until January
The Board of Education at its regular meeting Tuesday voted unanimously to appoint a new member to temporarily fill a vacant seat on the panel. Robin Zawodniak was nominated by outgoing board member Deidre Kukucka. There were no other nominations, audience members said. The nominations came after interviews with three prospective members were conducted by the board. Betsy Cross, Zawodniak and board candidate Jeffrey Kniffen each applied to fill the seat vacated by former board Vice President Laurie Cannon. Cannon, whose term expires in 2013, abruptly resigned from the board in August. The board could not legally leave the seat open until January, when a new member, chosen by voters in November's election, will be seated for the remainder …

Filling seat vacated by former Vice President Laurie Cannon
The Board of Education at its regular meeting Tuesday is expected to fill the seat left by Laurie Cannon, who abruptly resigned in late August. The school board’s agenda calls for nominations for Cannon’s seat early in the order of business. Cannon’s term, which expires in 2013, cannot legally be left vacant until January, when a new member will finish out her term. Whoever is appointed will serve only until January. Nominations will be made, then a majority of the eight-member board will decide which among the nominees – if there are more than one – will fill Cannon’s seat. Next month, however, voters will choose which of the seven candidates who filed to run for the remainder of Cannon’s term will be seated in January. Kristen Casais, …

Twitter feeds and search function built into the site
The township school district on Friday launched two new features to its website, along with a slight redesign. The site looks and fuctions much like it did previously, but it now features Twitter feeds from Superintendent Daniel Simon and Jeff Janover, the technology director, and a search function. Some of the navigational elements, like links to the district's four schools, have been given more prominence. Janover said the district is in the process of a complete redesign of the website, which will include more social media, blogs and other interactive features. "The website design was nearly four years old, and needed a facelift," Janover said. "The site that's online now is only a minor revision of the old site, offering the two …

Ex-Wall Township Schools Superintendent James Habel has hired a former high ranking member of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office after investigators from that same office conducted an early morning raid on his Point Pleasant home Thursday. Habel has hired former First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Robert A. Honecker Jr. to represent him, Honecker confirmed Friday. "Mr. Habel intends to fully cooperate with the Prosecutor's Office, and we'll see where this investigation concludes,'' Honecker said. "Obviously, we think that when it does conclude, Mr. Habel will be exonerated." Habel's Point Pleasant home was raided by investigators from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Thursday morning. James F. Habel's Point Pleasant Borough home raided this morning
Investigators from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Thursday morning raided the Point Pleasant home of former Wall Township Superintendent of Schools James F. Habel. Acting Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni was tight-lipped about the raid, saying only that the office "conducted an investigative action'' at Habel's residence. Gramiccioni did not say what investigators were looking for or what was taken from Habel's home at 1614 Blue Heron Court in the raid, which began at 6:30 a.m. Attempts to reach Habel were unsuccessful Thursday afternoon. Habel took the helm of the Wall School district beginning in 2003. Habel received a base salary of $220,048 in 2011, plus extensive benefits. The retirement payout for the former …
