A revaluation is coming, but the tax impact will not hit until 2015 under terms of settlement agreement between county and township
The Township Committee at its regular meeting tonight is scheduled to ratify a court settlement with the county over a revaluation of all property in the township. The County Board of Taxation more than a year ago ordered the township to conduct a revaluation of all property in town, business and residential, to determine its current value. It’s a process that is conducted about once a decade. Wall’s last revaluation was in 2000, township officials said. But the town fought the order, delaying the revaluation for two years. One reason: the expense. The other: timing, Mayor Jeffrey Foster said. “We’re not happy about it,’’ Foster said. “It couldn’t come at a worse time for people – a down economy, and now all this with Sandy. I think it’s …
Three pieces of local legislation target the state's second largest utility company
The Township Committee on Wednesday is set to vote on three pieces of local legislation targeting the state’s second largest utility company. The first is an adapted version of a resolution being passed in numerous towns in Monmouth County. It outlines 10 suggestions to make JCP&L a more responsive company, culled from a meeting attended by officials from several Monmouth County towns and held in Tinton Falls on Nov. 19, according to Jeffry Bertrand, township administrator. The second is the codification of a strongly worded open letter sent by Mayor Jeffrey Foster and the Township Committee, Bertrand said. The letter called JCP&L’s response to the storm “atrocious’’ and suggested that the company institute a Incident Command System, …

Township Committee continues criticisms of JCP&L's performance
Effective communication and selfless teamwork enabled Wall Township's government to keep residents safe as the state suffered through superstorm Sandy, officials said Tuesday night. "Everyone stepped up to the plate," township Administrator Jeff Bertrand said at the regular meeting of the Township Committee. "Volunteers are the backbone of this township," Mayor Jeff Forster said in agreement. Committee members, residents and department heads lauded the efforts of staff and volunteers at the meeting, the first regular session since Sandy made landfall and knocked out power to much of Wall for almost two weeks. Officials also reiterated their dissatisfaction with JCP&L's performance and pledged to pressure the company to improve its …

The answer: He’s the latest Wall Township resident to appear on a national television show. The question, of course, is: Who is Howell High School Assistant Principal Craig Chern? Chern, 41, of Tennis Court, is scheduled to appear Wednesday, competing for cash and prizes on longtime quiz show Jeopardy! Chern, a years-long Jeopardy! fan whose appearance on the show was recorded in August, said in an interview Tuesday that the whole experience was surreal. “It’s insane,’’ he said. “It’s something you dream about and then you’re right there on the set, which is a lot smaller than you would expect it to be. It’s crazy.’’ Chern in February completed an online quiz on the Jeopardy! website to be a contestant. A few thousand people were chosen …

A new report from United Way calculates the number of struggling working families across the state
According to a new report, 28 percent of Monmouth County residents struggle to afford basic necessities, despite having working adults in the home. United Way recently released a report, five years in the making, to document the number, location and experiences of New Jersey families who are working, yet "who live each day one crisis away from falling into poverty." The report is known as the ALICE project, which is an acronym for " Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed."
