Panels Double Up: Two Meetings Tuesday

Board of Education and Township Committee set to meet on the same day

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Township Committee this week has moved its regular business meeting to Tuesday. The committee normally meets on Wednesday, but the shortened week prompted the governing body to bump up their regular session by one day. The committee’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at town hall, 2700 Allaire Rd. Also that night, the Board of Education is set to meet for its regular public session.  The board is set to meet at 8 p.m. at the Intermediate School, 2801 Allaire Rd. The board’s meeting was postponed from last week, when the schools administration held a forum to collect community input on how the remainder of the school calendar would look following the two-week storm-forced closure of the …

New School Board Vice President

Board of Education votes unanimously to replace Laurie Cannon

The Board of Education on Tuesday voted to appoint first-year member Joe Tonzola as the panel's vice president. The vote to appoint Tonzola to the position was 5-0. Board President John Tavis and member Deidre Kukucka were absent. Tonzola abstained from the vote. Board member Robin Cervantes nominated Tonzola. It was seconded by board member Anne Moonan. There were no other nominations. Tonzola takes over for the panel's former vice president, Laurie Cannon, who unexpectedly quit last week. Cannon has a year left on her term. Her seat has not yet been filled for the remainder of the calendar year. But by Friday's deadline, seven people filed to run for the remainder of Cannon's year on the board. Tonzola thanked Cannon, who was not in the …

Congratulations Mr. Tonzola! Your comment about Ms. Cannon is an example to all, that while holding differing views the general goal is the same, its the kids! You also show that differences of opinion aren't to be taken personally. Hopefully as the board's make up changes in the upcoming elections new members can practice this,   more ›

UPDATE: What's Going On At The Intermediate School?

Meetings, surveys and discussion have abounded but no word on what it all will mean

Three public meetings and a pair of possibly flawed parent surveys but no word yet from the Wall Township School District administration on exactly what the next school year might look like at the Intermediate School. The recent accidental discovery by a parent of a then-unannounced plan to shuffle  the Intermediate School schedule and oust some music instruction from the regular school day, touched off a firestorm among parents of music students which quickly spread among the Intermediate School community. The district held two informational sessions to pitch their case for the need for the change, which officials have said is an effort to bolster math and language instruction and remove the school from a state watch list of schools …

I still say, contact the new Super for comment. He is the person who will be responsible for implementing, etc. Surely he can weigh in even though he is not on the clock. If he is not weighing in... then perhaps Wall should be looking for a new Super!!   more ›

Those most affected by proposed changes take their turn to be heard

The administration has spoken. The district parents have had their turn. A full story will be posted as details become available. Please check back. Interim Schools Chief May Be Named Friday

Board of Education sets special meeting on Friday

Following a 30-minute closed session that was called around 10 p.m. Tuesday, the Board of Education announced it would hold a special meeting on Friday where it could name an interim Superintendent of Schools.  The board called for the closed session following a two-hour regular meeting, saying it needed the time to discuss personnel matters. When the panel came back into open session about a half-hour later, board attorney Michael Gross told the few remaining audience members that the board decided to hold the special meeting at 4 p.m. in the Intermediate School library to possibly name the interim schools superintendent. Gross said the contract for an interim schools chief had to be approved by the county Superintendent’s Office and may…

This guy was horrible Superintendent and leader, he did nothing to correct all the problems the Wall Township Schools had. He had the same answers all the time, wait for the dust to settle only to do not a thing to help control bad situations.   more ›

School Board To Take Its Own Votes On Election Day

Board of Education scheduled to meet as polls close statewide

Immediately following the close of voting on this election day, the Wall Township Board of Education is scheduled to have its own polling at its regular meeting. The board -- scheduled to meet tonight at 8 p.m. at the Intermediate School -- will attempt to stem the tumult of past months when it votes in the third board president since the April school elections. Polls for the statewide elections also close at 8 p.m. Also scheduled, according to the board’s agenda, is a recommendation by Superintendent James Habel to eliminate the position of assistant superintendent, the post held by Sandra Brower, who is leaving the district to take the helm of the Lacey School District. The board in April elected longtime board member Eva Applegate to …
