Lacey chorus students cheered along with Cari Fletcher over their shared experience as alto singers Wednesday afternoon. The member of Lakoda Rayne, a finalist in the group category of season one of The X Factor, visited Terri Lacalandra-Giampaoli’s chorus class at Lacey Township High School.  Fletcher, a Wall Township resident, began vocal lessons at 6, after starting with piano and eventually guitar, flute and drums. “I finally found singing, and I loved it,” she said. She tried out for The X Factor as a solo artist and was put into a musical group after the show’s “boot camp. “I really wanted to do something bigger,” she said of her audition for The X Factor. “And my mom always wanted to meet Simon Cowell." Christie: 'I'm Not Going Anywhere' if Romney Wins

Governor says New Jersey is prepared to handle loss of power after Oyster Creek closes

Gov. Chris Christie vowed to finish his term regardless of whether Mitt Romney wins the presidency and also addressed local energy concerns during a stop in Lacey Thursday for his 94th town hall meeting. “I told you I love this job. I want to do this job. I made a deal with you. Four years that I want to stay with you in this job, and then we’ll see what happens after that,” Christie said. “I’m not going anywhere. You people are stuck with me.” Christie, who addressed approximately 600 people at the Lacey Elks lodge on Beach Boulevard, vowed that if Romney wins the election, he would remain in New Jersey as he made a “four-year deal.” 'Seamless Transition' After Oyster Creek Closes A Whiting resident voiced his concerns about energy saying…

Bride Reflects on Wedding Expedited by Hurricane Irene as 'Perfect'

The couple will have been happily married for one year Sunday.

One year ago Sunday, then-Jessy Phifer walked down the isle a little earlier than she had planned. Hurricane Irene had gotten to just about everything. Stores were shutting down, the parkway was closed off, communities were evacuating and Phifer's wedding was canceled. “The day of our wedding was crazy,” now-Jessy Phifer Cannon said. “We were supposed to have our rehearsal that day.” Phifer, 30, originally from Lacey Township and her husband Shaun Cannon, 31, a native of Florida, were set for their wedding on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the United Methodist Church on Lacey Road. The chaos began two days prior to the planned wedding date, when Phifer was notified by the reception venue Bayfront in Waretown that there had been a power surge…

She’s all smiles.” Each year, Princess predicts the winner of NFL games, including the Super Bowl. Princess makes her decisions based on graham crackers, Bergman said. VIDEO: Popcorn Park's Princess Picks 2012 Super Bowl Winner

Perhaps Princess the Camel's prediction put the Giants over the hump?

Princess the Camel of Popcorn Park Zoo in Lacey Township has once again lived up to her reputation as a football pick prognosticator: The camel predicted the New York Giants would come out on top in Super Bowl XLVI. Princess, who has been prognosticating for the past six years, has the uncanny ability to predict the outcomes of games, said John Bergmann, general manager of Popcorn Park. “What started out as a fun weekly activity a few years ago has become an annual tradition,” Bergmann previously said. “Princess has her own fan base — probably as strong as some of this year’s NFL quarterbacks. She is definitely our MVP.” Princess was right 14 out of 20 games this NFL season and picked the Giants throughout the playoffs. “She seems to be a …
