State Gun Buyback Program Coming To Monmouth County

State Attorney General says up to $250 paid for guns turned in on March 8, 9

In attempt to get illegal guns off the streets and cut into gun violence, the Attorney General’s Office is staging a state-sponsored gun buyback to be held in Monmouth County early next month, officials said Thursday.  State Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa was in Asbury Park Thursday to announce the March 8 and 9 program would be held in conjunction with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Asbury Park Police Department, the Keansburg Police Department, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, and local faith-based community organizations. Con men see opportunities in disaster. That's not a new idea, Monmouth County Acting Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said. Following Hurricane Sandy, with tens of thousands of residents, many of them right here in the county, rebuilding their lives, there needs to be protection for those who are most vulnerable, he said. On Wednesday, Gramiccioni unveiled the Monmouth County Superstorm Sandy Fraud Task Force, a two-pronged, multi-jurisdictional effort that promises to be proactive and reactive when it comes to identifying potential instances of fraud and ferreting out the criminals responsible. Monmouth Prosecutor's Office Busts Multimillion-Dollar Heroin Ring

A massive sweep of a multimillion-dollar heroin ring led to charges against 52 people, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced during a press conference in Freehold on Monday. The arrests marked the culmination of an eight-month long investigation, titled Operation Hats Off, which began last spring after the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) received information regarding gang activity and heroin distribution in the Shore area. Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Launches Corruption Tip Line

Opportunities for fraud and misconduct may increase in the wake of Sandy.

Monmouth residents who suspect corruption by government officials now have a direct line where they can blow the whistle. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) launched a tip line and e-mail address on Friday to take reports of fraud, corruption and abuse by local government agencies.  “The large majority of public officials render honest and faithful service. But we need the public to help us hold accountable those who betray the public’s trust by committing crimes or using their official positions for their own personal gain and enrichment,” Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Trio Charged in Upper Freehold 'Baby Bones' Child Death Case

Three New York residents have been charged in connection with 2002 death.

The remains of 9-year-old Jon-Niece Jones needed a DNA test to identify her. Some seven years after the discovery of a child’s skeleton in the Clayton Park area of Upper Freehold, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) has announced charges against three New York residents in connection with her death. Likisha Jones, 39, of Manhattan; James Jones, 35, of Brooklyn; and Godfrey Gibson, 48, of Manhattan were arrested Tuesday and charged with hindering apprehension, tampering with physical evidence, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy, according to a press release issued by the MCPO. Neptune Woman Sentenced to 7 Years in Death of Wall Football Coach

A Neptune woman will spend seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to causing the death of a Wall Township youth football coach while driving drunk. Madeline Rodriguez, 51, was sentenced today by Superior Court Judge Francis J. Vernola after pleading to one count of vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated in the May 24, 2011, crash on Route 35 in Neptune. David 'Tiny' Pisarcik, 49, a popular youth football coach, died just 45 minutes after he was thrown from his motorcycle during a collision with Rodriguez, according to a release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. Ivins Arrested on Assault Charge in Belmar

David Ivins, a homeless man who received national attention last year after his assault was posted to Youtube, is awaiting his first appearance in Superior Court after being arrested Monday. Ivins, 51, will answer charges of aggravated assault and recklessly causing public alarm on Wednesday afternoon after police said he threatened patrons of 7-Eleven in Belmar and then assaulted a police officer who was attempting to arrest him.  Ivins, a Manasquan native, became unruly in the 7-Eleven, cursing and yelling at customers, according to a police complaint filed with Superior Court. Wall man stole $271,000 from auto restoration customers, Prosecutor's Office says

A township man was arrested Thursday and charged with stealing more than $271,000 from customers of his various auto restoration businesses, authorities said. Victor A. Decker, 43, of Warren Avenue, was arrested and charged with second degree Theft by Deception.  The charge carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence, if convicted, according to a release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. The arrest stems from an investigation into Decker’s several auto restoration businesses in Monmouth County by the Prosecutor’s Office and the State Police, the release says. Decker was paid by at least 24 customers to restore classic and antique autos, but never completed his contracted work and in many cases, Decker stripped, damaged and …

Bayville Woman Indicted On Theft, Forgery Charges

Indictment says woman defrauded three of about $75,000

A Bayville woman has been indicted on charges that she committed theft, fraud and forgery in Wall Township for about a year, according to court documents. Kristin Grippe, 27, is charged with second degree theft by deception, third degree forgery and third degree uttering a forged instrument, according to the indictment, which was handed up Monday. The indictment says Grippe, between May 2010 and December 2011, forged checks belonging to three separate victims and cashed them at a local Wells Fargo bank. Gripped accepted cash of $75, OOO over about a 19-month period, according to the indictment.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office has scheduled a guns-for-cash firearm surrender sessions at three locations on Thursday. Guns can be turned into cash by surrendering weapons at the Keansburg Police Department, 179 Carr Ave., the Asbury Park Police Department, 1 Municipal Plaza or the Freehold Township Police Department, in the municipal plaza on Schank Road. Police will pay $25 for each rifle or shotgun; $50 for every handgun and $100 for each assault rifle. No questions asked, according to a release from the Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities ask that you transport your weapons in box, not carried open or concealed, the release says. Ammunition, replicas, BB and Pellet guns also will be accepted, but no cash will be paid for those …
