Man charged overnight following traffic stop
A 31-year-old Neptune man was arrested and charged with drunken driving overnight, police said. James Lavarin, 31, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated around 3:01 a.m. Friday following a traffic stop at Route 70 and Riverview Drive. Patrolwoman Amy Drackwicz was the arresting officer, Sgt. Steven Wolter said. Lavarin was charged and released with a court date, Wolter said.
Teen crossed lanes against "Do Not Walk" sign, police say
A 16-year-old Brick Township resident on a skateboard was struck by a minivan while crossing a busy intersection Friday night just after 10 p.m., police said. Traffic was detoured on Route 70 near the intersection with Route 88 for about two hours after the accident, in which a 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan being driven by Michael E. Dejuana Jr., 21, of Brick, struck a 16-year-old juvenile who was riding a skateboard, said Brick Police Officer Scott Dierking. The teen, whose identity was not released, was riding across the eastbound lanes of Route 70 against a "do not walk" signal and had crossed three lanes before being hit by Dejuana, who had a green light at the time, Dierking said.
