Prince Harry Begins Jersey Shore Visit with Sea Girt Landing

British Royal greeted by Gov. Christie to begin tour

He may have focused his visit on Mantoloking and Seaside Heights, but Prince Harry's trip to tour Jersey Shore devastation began in Sea Girt. The British Royal landed on the base here, and was greeted by Gov. Chris Christie. The governor took to twitter, announcing the prince's arrival, and presenting him with a "Royal Fleece." Christie's own fleece became synonymous with his press conferences and tours following Hurricane Sandy. Prince Harry continued to Mantoloking and Seaside Heights as one of the last days spent stateside of an approximately one-week trip. The purpose of his visit to the Jersey Shore was to tour devastation of areas impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

With 100 days since the devastating hurricane, Gov. Chris Christie’s visit to Sea Girt focused on what he called another rebuilding success — the reconstruction of the borough’s boardwalk. The visit was to celebrate another town’s big step in rebuilding their shorefront, and the governor used the opportunity to predict summer will be “open for business” on the Jersey Shore. “It’s been a hundred days now, they are wondering, is the Shore going to be back for the summer, and there are those who don’t think so. Middletown Man Indicted After Violent Rampage Spanning Three Towns

A Middletown man who choked a former girlfriend with a belt and a cell phone charger in front of the couple’s infant daughter before hitting and dragging a police officer with his car was indicted on a slew of assault charges by a grand jury Wednesday, authorities said. A grand jury on Wednesday handed up a 25-count indictment against Gregory B. Canova, 38, for a March 25 incident that began in Wall Township and ended in Middletown involving multiple violent assaults against his girlfriend, the couple’s 1-year-old daughter and police officers trying to arrest him, according to a release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Sea Girt: Post-Sandy Repairs Won't Impact Beachgoers

Repairs from Hurricane Sandy are well under way and are not expected to impact visitors this season.

Sea Girt is a charming beach town that features a long, wide boardwalk that starts at the historic Sea Girt Lighthouse and runs all the way to the southern end of the borough. Visit Sea Girt to swim, stroll or fish at the beach, shop at small businesses or eat at a variety of local restaurants. The beach and boardwalk is open all year long, but lifeguards are only on duty on Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day to June 15. Starting June 16 through Labor Day, lifeguards patrol the beaches from 9:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily. Daily badges can be purchased for $10, a coupon book of ten daily badges can be purchased for $90 and a seasonal badge can be purchased for $105.
