Nik Duritza among students selected for annual award
A Wall High School senior was among recipients of an annual award given to Monmouth County students who exemplify a spirit of giving. Nik Duritza was among more than 30 high schoolers who received the 2012 Caring Award at a ceremony at Brookdale Community College, Middletown, on Friday. Duritza, who annually turns his home into a Christmas-themed light show attraction to raise money for charity, was honored for his commitment to "Project Snowflake," the Wall High School program that provides gift cards to needy families at Christmastime. The Caring Award is given annually to one student from each of the county’s participating high schools by the Monmouth County Guidance Director Association to honor the commitment of students who go the …

Fletcher, a Wall High School Senior, heads home after long run
Lakoda Rayne, the hastily put together girl singing group featuring Wall High School singer Cari Fletcher was eliminated from competition on Simon Cowell's X Factor. The group received the least number of audience votes from Tuesday's round of competition. The girls were the first of two acts to be eliminated from the show Wednesday. "I just feel so bad for them,'' said Lauren Greco, Fletcher's vocal coach and also a Wall resident. "I know they all wanted this more than anything.'' The grand prize of the show is a $5 million recording contract and a starring role in a Pepsi commerical to be shown during next year's Super Bowl. "They really put their hearts and souls into everything and I'm certain they're going to do big things in the …
Annual Wall vs. Manasquan football game set for tomorrow
Thousands will descend on Wall High School tomorrow for the annual Thanksgiving Day football game against neighboring Manasquan High School. The game will mean nothing in terms of playoff positioning; both teams have been eliminated from this year's race. But the rivalry is intense and longstanding nonetheless. Manasquan has a statistical edge in the series, winning six of the 11 Thanksgiving games between the neighboring teams. This year, Manasquan comes in strong after a remarkable season under new head coach Jay Price which was cut short by a loss against Matawan last week. The Knights team arrives with a 7-2 record after suffering a first-round playoff loss to Steinhert two weeks ago. The Gameday forecast looks promising: Sunny, with …

Narrowly escaping elimination, group returns on "Rock Week"
Lakoda Rayne, featuring Wall Township High School singer Cari Fletcher, put their own spin on another Fleetwood Mac tune on X Factor Wednesday, with mixed reviews from the show's judges. Lakoda Rayne performed "Go Your Own Way,'' from the 70s supergroup live on stage in Los Angeles and carried nationwide on network television. Following the song, the judges weighed in with their opinons. Judge L.A. Reid was first. "I'm happy to see that this was the first time I've seen you have fun,'' Reid said. "Does it measure up? Do you have what it takes to be global superstars?'' Before he had a chance to continue, Fletcher, a 17-year-old senior at Wall High, answered, emphatically, for him: "We definitely do,'' she said. Judge Nicole Scherzinger …

Viewing party held at high school as Fletcher sings for millions again
Some sitting in the Wall High School auditorium Wednesday night are wearing black T-shirts in support of a hometown singer competing on a national stage before a live audience of millions. They're young children, teens and adults. And they're all here to support Wall High School singer Cari Fletcher, who is just minutes away from performing on Simon Cowell's X Factor singing competition. When Fletcher, a 17-year-old senior, appears with her group, Lakoda Rayne, the audience erupts with applause. Then, absolute silence. The group sings Fleetwood Mac's melancholy tune "Landslide." Then, wild applause once again. "I thought they did wonderful,'' said Joann Fletcher, Cari Fletcher's aunt, who attended the viewing held at the high school with …

Wall High School singer on Simon Cowell's X Factor
Wall Township High School singer Cari Fletcher continued to wow audiences and silence critics on Simon Cowell's X Factor on Tuesday as she was part of the final dozen acts left in the singing competition. As part of the group Lakoda Rayne, Fletcher performed live from Los Angeles on the nationally televised competition. The group sang the 1980s classic "Come on Eileen,'' by Dexys Midnight Runners. The group seemed more comfortable with each other, and that apparently came through to the judges. "Let me tell you,'' said judge L.A. Reid. "If you walked into my office right now and performed like that, you'd have a worldwide recording contract. I love everything about you.'' Judge Nicole Scherzinger said: "You make girl groups look good, …

The graduating class of 2011 accepted into 212 institutions
The Wall High School Class of 2011 has been accepted into 212 separate colleges and universities throughout the country. Ivy League schools, design schools, technical institutes, religious colleges. Liberal Arts, environmental science, art and medical institutions, the Class of 2011 runs the gamut of higher education. The list of colleges that have accepted Wall High graduating seniors -- included below -- might not be complete and does not necessarily reflect where students will ultimately go, but where they have been invited to attend, school officials said. Rosaleen Sirchio, Wall High School principal, said about 70 percent of each graduating class goes on to a four-year college. The school this year began the Building a Better Wall …
