Track star Terrence Maliff looks to distance himself this weekend
After running at the front of the pack in three straight championship track meets, Wall High School senior hurdler Terrence Maliff will find himself in an unfamiliar position at Friday’s NJSIAA Group III championships at South Plainfield. A runner who has already captured Monmouth County, Shore Conference and Central Jersey Group III gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles will be an underdog when he toes the line. “I’m in good company, so it’s going to be hard to win,’’ he said. “I’m used to running out of any lane at this point, so I’m just going to try my hardest.’’ Maliff ran a personal-best 54.21 in the 400 hurdles to win the Shore Conference title despite entering as the fourth seed. That time is the fourth-fastest this season of any …

Seniors Ryan Hutchins, Alex Hoteck and Joe Stansbury help draw the festival's highest turnout in recent memory
More than 300 came to see some of Wall Township's best young, amateur filmmakers at Wall High School's annual student film festival Monday night, and organizers said turnout was the highest it has ever been. Organizers said turnout was the highest yet for the annual event as students, faculty and family members filled seats for the screening of several films created by some of the high school’s best filmmakers, said Seth Hewitt, event organizer and instructor of the school’s TV production class. Five films were shown, among them three from seniors Ryan Hutchins, Alex Hoteck and Joe Stansbury. Hutchins’ film, “Ted Polowski: Home for the Holidays,” was a 45-minute mock-documentary about the life of Wall High School’s newest gym teacher, …

Crimson Knights remain all alone at the top of their division
Two days after suffering its first loss of the season, Wall’s baseball team took it out on old rival Manasquan with a five-inning, 10-0 rout of the Warriors on Thursday afternoon to remain alone in first place in Class C Central. The victory capped a two-win day, as the Crimson Knights also defeated Freehold 8-2 in a nondivisional victory in the morning to help erase a 4-3 nonconference loss to Hamilton West in eight innings that halted a 6-0 start. The victory over Manasquan came in front of a large crowd at Wall’s home field on 18th Avenue. “It was a challenge to bounce back, but we were preparing to have to play these two games all week long, and for the Manasquan game, you’ve got to be ready,’’ said junior outfielder Tyler Block. “Both…

Crimson Knights are 6-0
With the Wall High School baseball team off to one of its best starts in the 14-year tenure of head coach Todd Schmitt, he paid this group the ultimate compliment. Schmitt compared his junior-laden team to the Class of 2005, which was a crucial part of a 2004 team that made Shore Conference history. The 2004 squad is the best team in school history and the only Shore team to win five championships in one season – division, Shore Conference Tournament, Monmouth County Tournament, NJSIAA sectional title and a Group title. It remains to be seen if this year’s team, which is off to a 6-0 start after a 9-5 win over Ocean on Friday, can make a run at that historic feat. The good sign is that its relentless competitiveness hearkens back to a …

Our best yet. The creativity of wall high school students is second to none! Between the Music,Art,Film and Theater programs at WHS we are comparable if not BETTER than any performing arts high school or specialty academy. I am also impressed with the collaboration our administrators and support our Board of Ed. afforded the kids in pursuit of their goals. KUDOS to all. Mychelle Kendrick National…   more ›
