ReplyI am a Normandy Beach Zombie who got nothing from our government and lost everything in our house ( year round ). I had to but Winter clothes and Spring and Summer clothes. It was like I was first married and needed everything. Staying with my sons girlfriend and had to buy a bedroom set in addition to furniture for three more people now living there. Both homes on either side of my home are in A zones, yet mine was listed as a V zone ??? How can that be ?? Smart storm ? or just stupid FEMA regulations.

ReplyI heard from a business owner in Lavallette that RT 35 roadwork will begin in June of this year. You have got to be kidding me... What else can they throw at us?? Yes, I am still flooded out of my home in Normandy Beach, but pity the homeowners, businesses allowed to get back in. Now it will take hours to get to your property. Did our politicians hear about Fall ? Our business owners on the barrier lost money due to the hurricane, now road repair?? At least the new roads will allow vacationers to see how the barrier island got screwed by FEMA.............

ReplyThere is no drum banging on the barrier island. We had flood insurance and was told we needed wind insurance. The Ocean county events are not being held at the shore, but on the main land. Guess that is safe enough, no? Those north Jersey cities which you mentioned are located in the flood zone areas. Remember that this is the first time in 100 years for this type of flooding. How can you prepare ? How can you save 40 years of accumulated memories all washed away? Walk a mile in our shoes before you answer....

ReplyMaybe we can pitch a tent on the reef ! If they built the reef along the entire barrier island, we would not have to pay hefty flood insurance, raise our homes, remain homeless while reefs are being built. Let's build a reef in Ortley Beach, between the homes that are crumbled and laying on their side. What a vacation day that would be!

ReplyHmmm, Most of these are tourism events are located in South Jersey. Guess the big boys in Trenton don't want to show tourists the Sun & Fun at the Jersey Shore!!! How much sun will be missed by finger pointers asking what happend to the houses?
Fun is how much waste you can find (nails, glass, wood, chemicals, etc. ) in the ocean and bays. What more can you ask for ? Oh, ask FEMA !! -

Well said carolannie10 !!! We are broke here on the barrier island !! And we are still paying off the monies owed by Katrina's damages. I too lost everything, except the clothes on my back. After 37 years, I lost my job and was unemployed for the full 99 weeks. What do you think we lived off of ? Unemployment? All savings were depleated, so how the hell am I going to pay for my Sandy damages? We are in a financial depression and not getting any perks to fix our homes. Yes, it is my primary residence.Bend over tax payers, looks like we are going to get shafted again !!!!!!!!!!

Anthony Esposito- When was the last time you drove through the barrier island, during the daytime, without consuming 80 proof liquor? Wake up and smell the grief, sadness and suffering that is going on here. Our rose colored sunglasses got washed away in the flood. Come down one and all and see all the wrecked homes and lives that remain devastated after 4 months. I too am homeless, a vagabond that have paid taxes for fifty years and now when we need help, lets give 250 million to the middle east, who raise our gas prices daily. What a joke our politicians, and government is. DO NOT FORGET THE MARCH 9th meeting !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets go barrier island and fight back !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking for a year round rental, after being flooded out, found that the renting homeowners jacked up their monthly rental rates, want no pets, want no smoking, want a criminal backround check, want a credit check, want additional monthly rent for your pet, want you to carry rental insurance. How much more can we be punished?
